The newly opened tab I am replying to this thread on is clocking in at 73Mb. This is a Poal comment thread page. Browser bloat isn't just ads and other marketing/tracking garbage code. The bloat is the nature of the current web technologies. Yes use ad blockers, script blockers, anti-tracking tools and such, but don't expect the browser to use less RAM by filtering out that crap. Bloated and inefficient programming is a disaster but there's little that can be done to fix it since the tools and OSes are all garbage as well.
Poal doesn’t have trackers and ads.
The entire code base is around 25MB (UI stuff included).
It’s just bad programming (thanks DEI) on the browser side.

Yes, this is exactly my point. With a clean page like one from Poal with no trackers, ads or other garbage, the page is still "heavy" due to bad coding in the browser. The bloat begins with the browser and gets worse with the trackers, ads and telemetry scripts added on top of your typical garbage website. DEI and jew total surveillance have made this bloat beyond repair now. I'd use Lynx if websites were remotely usable with it.
They ruin everything they get close to.
Personally I hate watching a YouTube video to find out what size wrench I need for the front inner tie rod end. Is txt not a thing? It is, but it can’t be minimized.(yes I know sustains a thing) but that’s newish.
I used to write step by step how to’s.
List all to tools you need. Then the directions. A fucking monkey could follow them. Remove lug nuts, Remove rim and tire, use a 13mm for x, use a 10mm for y, zip tie up out of way, on and on.
My instructions were not based on the book, but how I did it after numerous starts and stops and the most efficient way to get it done.
But that’s all lost now. Dead internet. I check one thing I wrote about in 1995 on a forum…it still can be found but not in its original post form, just in text archives after numerous migrations of multiple forums.
But fuck videos. There is a time and place, but not everything needs a video. Like “how to tie on a light switch”
You mean memory use? I think article meant data transferred to load page. I saved this discussion (HTML+files) and it's only 1.3MB on disk.
