Marco goes over-the-top as usual, but EvilmonkeyzDesignz does a lot of chip micro-photography with a lot less expensive and cumbersome gear. Sure ED may not have gigabyte-sized images, but most of us don't need that anyway.

If you're not already familiar with him, Ken Shirriff has a blog where he has a lot of chip/die micro-photos and information breakdowns as well as other interesting stuff. It's worth a look if even just for the 555 timer stuff.
