Years ago I ran OpenWRT on a Linksys AP/Router and I recall how much less I needed to restart the device. I'd buy this if I needed one. Having a non-shit router will change your life.

Also lets you keep more up-to-date after the manufacturer abandons it. I've been running OpenWRT/DD-WRT for a decade on my routers. Also a nice way to have the same software on multiple routers even if from different brands.

Yeah, Linksys WRT54-GL. That was my go-to. I started out with DDWRT though and moved to OpenWRT later on.

Now I use ubiquiti for everything. If I had to build my own again I would probably go with the pfsense fork opensense.
