They make lots of light with little energy. Kwitcherbitchen.
LEDs use less energy than LPS and have a high CRI. That makes them superior to your precious, narrow spectrum sodium lamps.
They also don't last as long. Mercury vapor is the best, I've seen those on for 30 years, transformer plates squealing like a barrel of rusty nails being vibrated.

I read somewhere that LED lights are actually blue and use another component to partially strip out some of the spectrum but can still have damaging effects on eyes and skin.
Link is just from a quick web search, any thoughts on this would be nice, it's come up in conversation before.

White LEDs are actualy blue LEDs coated with a fluorescent phosphor to convert the blue light to sort of white light. The yellow coating you see on some LEDs is that phosphor.

As for damaging effects from blue LEDs, well that seems to be over exaggerated because sunlight has a tremendous amount of blue light as well as UV in it too. The LED output is significantly less than what the sun can do, but the fear comes from misinterpreting the data and testing of LEDs. I worry more about the sun because the sun can cause skin cancer and no LED has ever been linked to that.
I treat the effects of LEDs like I do (((climate change))). It's fear-based misinformation designed to give people anxiety and not trust reality but instead trust (((science))) instead of actual science. Fluorescent lamps also put out huge amounts of blue and even UV light, and of course blacklight bulbs for novelty purposes, but no one seems to be fearing those the way they do LEDs. It's all about control. We've lived with fluorescent lights our whole lives and no real health problems so LEDs being "new" can be made fearful from lack of long term data. We've lived with 5G cell signals for getting close to a decade now and we're not all cancered or dead, not even the birds. Isn't that interesting? :)
I thought the harmful thing with leds were the refresh rate that you subconsciously notice the flicker.
