Nothing could possibly go wrong. Im all for technology to make people's lives better and help people walk again or to communicate if they have major injuries or things as horrifying like "locked in syndrome". This is still just the first step to "lets put AI in it and let it read/write your brain". At least for now.. that only works with neuro-linguistic programming and you can be resistant to it by educating yourself.

From the post: "Feb 20 (Reuters) - The first human patient implanted with a brain-chip from Neuralink appears to have fully recovered and is able to control a computer mouse using their thoughts, the startup's founder Elon Musk said late on Monday. "Progress is good, and the patient seems to have made a full recovery, with no ill effects that we are aware of. Patient is able to move a mouse around the screen by just thinking," Musk said in a Spaces event on social media platform X."

For a moment I imagined the sheer hilarity of being able to control a mouse with my mind. Church, the office, a fancy restaurant, there's no scenario where women aren't standing on a chair screaming. Sadly some men too, but knowing is half the battle.

For a moment I imagined the movie Beast Master.

It's all fun and games until the mouse is a tiger, or better yet a human.

Can they inject the ads directly into your brain too?

Well that's creepy. Futurama did an episode on some company that could inject advertisements into your dreams. Same idea I guess.

It won't be long until someone hacks his brain.

Ghost in the shell. We are at alpha 0.0.0.0.0.0.1-100.

My thoughts exactly. Anyone who is a hacker or penetration tester would absolutely love to be the first.

Once the person learns to control something "just" by thinking, how is this any different than moving the mouse by moving the actual mouse? Both involve doing some mental gyration that causes it to move. We already cause things to happen just by "willing" them mentally.

Its like using the various "AI"'s to help you with your job. Its a force multiplier.

If you can do something 20x faster because you don't have to physically move yourself to move a mouse and can just "think" a thing or "think" a email... Then the level of productivity goes through the roof for a single person. They (if they are not a moronic piece of shit) could do the work of 20 people in the same time it would take for 1 person.

Extend this to controlling warehouse robots or highway trucks or drones..etc... It is a scale breaker once it reaches that level.

Due to the AI advancement stuff that is going on, it could be a year away.. It could be 20 years away. Or it could be a month away.

++ From the moment I understood the weakness of my flesh, it disgusted me. I craved the strength and certainty of steel. I aspired to the purity of the Blessed Machine.

Your kind cling to your flesh, as if it will not decay and fail you. One day the crude biomass that you call a temple will wither, and you will beg my kind to save you.

But I am already saved, for the Machine is immortal… ...even in death I serve the Omnissiah. ++

Ok Mickey, grab Minnie's left boob. Now shout "Oh boy!"

He'll be dead in two months.

It might be a bit longer than that due to the trials on the monkeys but they were all terminal already. Though, a random power surge or oh-too-close lightening strike might be enough to end the experiment.
