Why does a torque wrench need an operating system? Why isnt this purely a mechanically set torque wrench?

Maybe its for gigantic assembly lines requiring changes to be quick and effortless. Making everything online is cheaper than hiring multiple technicians.

It's going to be interesting when sex robots are common and when they get malware.

Sex robot now extorting you for money/gifts or it won’t participate. Pretty realistic!

They'll probably be so expensive most people will lease them. They'll probably also be constantly online and only have all the features for an extra monthly fee.

Or like a John Deere tractor that needs a mandatory subscription to software updates to run. Corporate add-on profit after the sale. It's almost ok if you're leasing, but not ok if you buy and own it.

The AI pimps will start gritting their teeth when that starts.

Most manufacturing equipment is horrendously insecure. Super old, never updated, and some recent stuff like this wants not just network access but Internet access in order to do anything useful. Who cares that the BoschOS™ is actually a heavily skinned version of WinXP right?

I'm honestly surprised this isn't in the news more often.

This might be fake or predictive programming. A bunch of stories I found reporting this all started the same way as well.

I did find miter saws with WiFi...no idea why it needs WiFi. It's a saw that I operate with my hands. Essentially, it is a motor I use to improve mechanical advantage and improve accuracy.

I just noticed something...that wrench is battery operated and not pneumatic as reported in the story.

Why do fucking power tools need to be online?

I figured it was the manufacturer forcing owners to pay a subscription fee or have features removed. I guess that's in the next version.
