So they are going to kill all the Chromium based browsers or force them to have their own extension repository?

Well, chrome is the defacto for all web browser technology now, sans Firefox and Safari. So they're betting on market share to force users to play by their rules and "eat ze bugz".

To be fair, they're not far off in that assessment given how mentally deficient most computer users are now. But for anyone who has an IQ above room temperature, moving to Firefox or seeking another ad block method won't be too hard.

What I'm curious to see is will YouTube adopt the Twitch method of pushing ads where now, you CAN block the ad, but instead you are forced to watch a screen that says "Commercials in progress" for the duration of what would be ads.

Manifest V3 will also put roadblocks up before extension updates, which will delay an extension developer's ability to quickly respond to changes.

It's good Google has solved the problem of zero-day exploits so that there are no updates that are critical. It would be great if some Google engineers imposed this forward-thinking policy on Google's own services.

But can't developers just basically push the logic into data that can be downloaded, to "update" things outside Google's control?

Kind of my thought also, but I don't question anything (((Google))) does anymore. I just avoid it best I can

I'm just glad I really like Mozilla and have always hated Chrome.
