I still remember when they were saying that 10g copper was going to be on consumer motherboards back in like 2010-2015. Now, if you are lucky you have 2.5gb on your motherboard. I want my damn 10g everywhere damn it! Im considering re-doing a lot of my network with some of these devices.

Ive used a lot of Mikrotik in the past and RouterOS and it was not always the most friendly but it worked and was cheap for what it could do.

From the post: "I personally love the CRS309-1G-8S+IN, and have three of them running in my homelab. They're less than $250, with 8 10 Gbps SFP+ ports, a 1 Gbps RJ45 port, and a serial console port.

But the best thing for my home use is they are fanless. Blissful silence, outside of a couple beeps the first time you plug it in.

But these 'Cloud Router Switch' models boot into RouterOS. RouterOS is fine and all, but if you just want a managed switch, and have a router elsewhere on the network, SwOS (short for SwitchOS) is where it's at."

I love Mikrotik. Cheap, tons of features, stable, and outlasts other options in the home and SMB space.

I use Ubiquiti for most stuff these days but I have always loved Mikrotik gear. For the cost you really can't do much better.

I'm a big fan of Ubiquito for access points, and Mikrotik for dedicated switches and routers.
