Near real time operation is not possible with low earth orbit satellites. Global Hawk and the like are semi autonomous. This is the reason for the rush to AI. They need AI for immediate threat recognition.

Low earth orbit satellite’s latency is around 25ms at a distance of 550km.

Brain’s response for a remote drone operator is 40~60ms.

I dont forsee this decimating the airline industry. If that were the case, videoconferencing would have done that years ago.
