The method they show is how I discharge old LiIon batteries completely before disposal.

Take a 5 gallon bucket, fill it with hot water and add a couple cups of salt. Dissolve, and dump 'em in. If they have any charge they'll start fizzing and oxidizing the salts. Leave them for a week or so and they're fully discharged.

I just want to point out how the media is very selective on what and how it reports an incident. They are saying there is no evidence that an EV started the fire, so people should stop being critical of shipping around EVs. The investigation is still ongoing, and it may very well conclude that the fire was started from something else. Then I'm sure they'll announce it everywhere and gloat that they were right, EVs are great.

Bur they won't say a damn thing about is how the EVs made this fire uncontrollable and ruined a huge cargo ship. And that's really the point. It'll take months, of not years, to safely scrap the ship and neutralize the batteries, which in some cases are literally fused to the ship. It's a huge waste of resources, all because some entitled liberals want to drive around their trendy electric toy cars.

This reminds me of the kind of cleanup they do at nuclear disasters. Radiation danger, danger of intact-appearing electric car bursting into flames at any moment.
