SanDisk Extreme SSDs were abruptly wiping data

I expect this of any SSD (and HDDs infected with the shingles). They use a complex page mapping table that basically makes a jumbled jigsaw of your data. If the tables get damaged, you can lose large portions of the data.

And regardless of how your data is stored, you should expect the medium it's on to fail at some point without warning. Keep copies of anything at all important.

The complaints also note that Western Digital's 30-day return and five-year warranty policies don't remedy lost data.

Now people expect drive manufacturers to warrant the data on them? Nice way to increase the cost of all drives, idiots.
