China invading the legacy chip space could close a lot of legacy US fabs. We have old fabs that can only compete in the larger geometry chip space, most survive in a niche market.
I think the simplest solution is to impose a tariff on the chinese chips and products containing them vs attempting to hinder chinese legacy chip fab development. That would eliminate their cost competitiveness and protect stateside foundries.
