China invading the legacy chip space could close a lot of legacy US fabs. We have old fabs that can only compete in the larger geometry chip space, most survive in a niche market.

I think the simplest solution is to impose a tariff on the chinese chips and products containing them vs attempting to hinder chinese legacy chip fab development. That would eliminate their cost competitiveness and protect stateside foundries.

Trump's tariffs against chinese steel, aluminum and some other goods didn't crash us. They had the exactly effect Trump anticipated.
