Printers are the spawn of satan.

lol..

I've been really lucky with my brother printer. Older model, none of that wi-fi stuff. I'm assuming that's how the HP got disabled.

[–] 2 pts

It got disabled because they agreed to an ink subscription service and didn’t pay HP. The printer will still work but not with cartridges on loan from HP.

Brother printer is king. The older models are best for office use. Apparently newer models have all these anti-third party protocols in place that complicate the use of third party ink cartridges and drums that are typically 90% cheaper than branded versions.

Brother generally made some good stuff. That was the last one I had, got rid of it because the transfer drum cost more than the printer did.

And that is what I heard about Brother. I didn't know much about which brand to get. I'll admit asking around on Reddit and most people had good things to say about Brother, so that is what I went with.

I've had this printer for probably 5 years at least and I'm still using the drum it came with. I hardly ever print anything, but I'm still surprised it has lasted this long.

I love my ancient HP Laserjet 5N. Freaking thing is a beast. Too bad parts are getting harder and harder to find.

Hack it and if you can't hack it, smash it.

This isn't new. HP has had this business model for at least a decade.

Manually? Don't they mean remotely?

HP has always been known as a company with good hardware, superior networking, and shit drivers. Brother has always been known for decent hardware (not as resilient as HP but good enough), mediocre networking and good drivers. My solution is to just get a raspi, install CUPS on it, and run the networking myself.

Read the fucking terms of service you morons. You agreed to a subscription service where HP provides you with ink cartridges based on the number of pages you print every month. You own the printer, but the ink cartridges are on loan from HP. If you want your printer to work again either update your credit card info or install your own ink cartridges. And read the terms of service next time FFS.

Goddamnit I hate the Jews, but they have a point: most of the goy are fucking retarded sheep. Can you blame them for taking advantage of us?

Potential beginning of a civil suit?

Step 1: Get access to the HP printers of a company you hate.

Step 2: Sign them all up to an "HP Instant Ink" account using a gift card.

Step 3: Watch a month later as the companies have to throw out all their printers.

Brother printers are the way to go (for now). I have a MFC since I needed the scanner but its also a laser not a ink printer. If I need something printed in color or on photo paper ill order it from a print shop.

Agree. I've dealt with a few printers in my lifetime. Brother is stress free and reliable, or at least the laser printer I have is. I'll never buy another inkjet [from any manufacturer]in my life, they are all overpriced garbage.

HP products in general are dog shit. Fuck HP.

The older wireless brother printers kind of were a PITA since they locked to a channel. If your accesspoint was able to change channels due to congestion the printer would not re-connect until the ap was back on the same channel or the printer was reconfigured.

At least they fixed that in later updates/firmware. That made life a little hell for some of the printers deployed at remote sites a long time ago. Even then, They were still better and cheaper than everyone else so there is that...

Either way, Unless Brother fucks up majorly they are what I use and have for about a decade now.

I've got one of the Canon ink-well types, so ink refills are cheap. The other main nice thing about it is that the actual print heads are 100% replaceable separately from the ink and are pretty cheap too.

The initial outlay for it is $200 though, I don't think you can get a similar one for much less than that, but it avoids most of the other pitfalls of ink printers.

I had a HP printer/scanner thing... It used to work fine, then one day I went to scan something and it demanded that I create a cloud based account that would manage all my scanned documents. This is not some fancy network based printer, just a fucking USB printer/scanner. They can fuck right off if they think they will have me send everything I scan to them.

That printer has now become a donor of small screws and springs (not many, as they don't make shit like they used to) and I will never buy a HP product again.
