It gets even more complicated. A Chromium bug known since 2016 allows two Unicode characters that look almost identical to the forward slash—U+2044 (⁄) and U+2215 (∕)—to be present in a URL without altering the way the browser interprets it.
That sounds like a redirect tracer and not a bug, if anything the chromium browser is working exactly as intended ....
