Not that long ago, I was taught in school that our form of government is best because it allows for a free press which functions as a watchdog over government..and that all of “those other countries” that have state-run press are dictators and assholes. We also were forced to read Orwell’s 1984 in high school as a course assignment. The degree to which shit has gone 180 degrees still astonishes me.
