So could I use info here to setup a private family server, pmyb2? Just curious, we used to have a family page on MyFamily.com (now defunct) and everyone misses it. Something along these lines might be doable, but am no coder.

you could, its not too bad, the identity server part I'm still working on, you really don't need to be a coder to setup a matrix server just have a vm with a public IP somewhere

I'll have to look into it. I'm actually fairly computer savvy, having built my own since there were such things. I just never felt the urge to wander into the coder side. I'm more a hardware type.
