Summary:

Avoid units with ice makers in the fridge section (for pushing ice through the fridge door). These are mostly the "French door" style units.

Look for "Made In America" for better quality control.

Make sure you have adequate space around the fridge once it's installed.

Clean the coils on the back of the fridge once a year.

Techs say GE is the best, with Whirlpool a close second.

For French door fridges, Whirlpool and Kitchen Aid are great (ones with no ice or water in the doors). Note: I had a Kitchen Aid like this and it lasted over 15 years.

If you can afford them, Sub Zero and Viking are even better.

Side by side fridge/freezer units can handle ice or water through the freezer door since the ice maker is in the freezer (not the fridge).

Be wary of Whirlpool freezer-top units.

LG has been sued a bunch and while they seem like they might be good, stay away for now.

Don't buy Kenmore.

Another part not listed was leaving at least an inch gap for air flow, and cleaning the coil once or twice a year.

Thank you. I hate this youtube shit

Here is a video about a question that takes 30 seconds to answer in text, please watch my 25 minute video!

Ya I hate a lot of them too.

This one seemed not so bad though since it was pretty directly informative. It could have been cut down to maybe 10 minutes, but that's still better than most of the idiotic videos we see posted out here.

The last big renovation I worked on they put in all Gaggenau appliances. The fridge is fucking ginormous.
