I have never understood this argument. My Rhythmbox plays music, Thunar opens files, Remmina remotes Windows... Why do I need the newest version of something? I have never had Mint or Debian not be able to do something I wanted it to do.
For some things. I want to keep the newest version, for many others i stick with a stable known version. But i play games on my PC too. Proton has brought that a long way, but it isnt everything and some stuff works better in other software.
I dont suggest running the latest versions of everything. That is asking for failure.
That said, taking some time to try out new software to see if it fits your needs, is a good thing. Moving to newer releases of the same software is nice too...
Deb release cadence is a bit slow for my taste...
Me being I.T. is my reason for not liking Windows or Arch. At the end of the day, after spending it fixing everyone else's shit; I just want my machine to work. Proton though; that is hopeful. I intend of rebuilding my Mint gaming rig to SteamOS 3 when it is released; the stable version that is ;)
With whats running on the deck, its Arch :D
I do IT shit all day too. I just want my machine to work. It hasnt broke since the last hardware failure years ago.
