Wire wrap stuff is great, but you need to know what you're doing. A poor wrap is as bad as a cold solder, and you really need good tools to do it. It creates a gas-tight wrap that contacts the corners of the pins and makes a connection that doesn't corrode. It's an art as well as a science, but I don't know that it's taught anymore.

The only reason I learned it is because Ma Bell was big into the stuff. I still have my Utica hand-wrapper somewhere.
