It would be a lot more impressive if they did classical wire wrapping instead of point-to-point soldering using 30 gauge wire wrap wire.

Fun fact: wire wrap actually results in a cold weld of the wire. It's wrapped so tightly that the air is pressed out so the metals touch directly, which causes welding.

We created printed circuit boards to we don't have to wire-wrap anymore.
Wire wrap stuff is great, but you need to know what you're doing. A poor wrap is as bad as a cold solder, and you really need good tools to do it. It creates a gas-tight wrap that contacts the corners of the pins and makes a connection that doesn't corrode. It's an art as well as a science, but I don't know that it's taught anymore.
It's not, at least not in most schools.
