I'm looking to get a home NAS in replacement to an old prebuilt server. I want to be on all the time and quiet.

I'm looking at either getting a 4 bay synology or 4 bay Asustor locker.

I don't want to build my own right now. I want this to sit quietly in the living room not suck up a lot of power.

I don't like Synology devices. I just don't like the OS setup/layout and there's been quality issues. I think Asustor and QNAP have better OS GUIs and haven't heard of hardware quality issues.

I'm currently sitting next to one, and it is pretty loud. Having said that, it was sitting in the equivalent of a shed for who knows how long...

Oh...Synology. It isn't really a shed, more like a detached garage.
