Tails is not installed in the usual sense. You make a liveusb so you can boot from your usb stick straight into tails. Whonix needs virtualization software to run, so you have to read a bit about virtual machines. Also, the whonix project has excellent documentation on all sort of things, I suggest you give it a try.
