Most people what we care about is privacy and security
I really don't see that, especially considering the overwhelming popularity of blatant spyware like Facebook, Google, Android, Amazon Alexa, etc.
Most average non-techies seem to care about convenience over anything else. They want to press a button in the app store. And for many banking apps, if you want to scan & remote deposit a check, you have to use the smartphone app.
I was referring at most people buying that kind of phone, people using Gab, Poal, etc, mostly geeky and privacy aware.
"Geeky" tech savvy users already have multiple options, and we don't really have to worry about them.
We need to break the Apple iPhone & Google Android duopoly. When they collude, and ban an app from their app stores (Alex Jones, BitChute, Gab, Parler, etc), it's a huge blow to that company's smartphone traffic. That gives those 2 companies enormous leverage in getting companies to censor (as Telegram CEO Pavel Durov has described).
And in order to break the Apple iPhone & Google Android duopoly at scale, we need an easy-to-use, easy-to-switch-to, free-speech oriented smartphone that millions of bitter Trump supporters can switch to, including grandmothers & non-techie types.
I don't know if "Freedom Phone" is the answer, but I do believe that the best solution will probably end up being some DeGoogled Android phone.
e.foundation / esolutions.shop also has a DeGoogled Android phone, but I don't know if the company is explicitly dedicated to free speech.
