knowing now how it's compromised

The video never says it's compromised. He argues that the encryption is rudimentary and that it doesn't use end-to-end encryption by default, allowing the company to see the content - All fair points. But that's a long way to go to "compromised". Some would argue the opposite, that the Telegram servers aren't compromised because the owner would rather leave Russia and have the app blocked in his home country rather than allow any government backdoor access.

I'll advise other people not to use it.

Up to you, but then I'd ask you to present a realistic alternative to people - Or else you're probably leaving them hanging on to way worse services.

Yeah, the word compromised was probably not the best choice of words. What I was getting at is that there are other sites more secure than that one. For example the one suggested, which was XMPP.

XMPP is no more encrypted than Telegram. It's possible to set up OMEMO or PGP encryption, but that's usually more difficult than enabling secret chat on Telegram.

PGP encryption looks good, though there appears to be a steep learning curve to it. What is your thinking on Signal?
