If you want to go even cheaper, older Xenon in socket 775 using DDR3 can perform amazingly good on most modern games for under 100 for the board and chip and possibly even mem

the $/performance of the xenon socket 775 definitely looks nice, but its performance/watt turns me off.

i'm honestly looking at the odroid h2 once they make another batch within a month or two. the m.2 slot is nice to have on such a tiny board, and running at 15 watts with x86 hardware peaks my interest. rough ballpark for h2 is ~$110 for system, $50 to 100 for ram, then either ssd or m.2, which depends on what i pick out and what is compatible. i'm mostly looking for a more efficient laptop that does not sacrifice any performance lower than i currently have, and the odroid would require case, keyboard, display in addition. If i pursue the odroid it will be a project to get it where i want it to be.

Ads you guys talking about Intel Xeon or really the Xenon used in the XBox?

Intel Xeon. Sorry can never remember the spelling. Without overclock, the speed is typically slower than most modern CPUs, but its not drastically slower, it's stupid easy to OC, it's 8 cores, and you can find them for as low as 25-30 bucks if you look.

I still use an Phenom 955 4 core as my daily driver. I put a 1060 Nvidia in it and it handles everything I throw at it like a champ. Age isn't everything. Not unless your running high end video work.
