This guy deserved far worse than ending his own life on his terms but it did get me thinking by using older computers would that law enforcement would have a hard time getting information from. From what I have found he used floppy disks, no hard drives.

I think the cops would be screwed if they encountered someone with a retro setup today.

Stupid article is stupid.

The Commodore 64, once the gaming system of choice in the 1980s (before the Nintendo Entertainment System boom) ...

No it wasn't. The PC, Apple II, Atari 800, and various gaming consoles existed. I have no clue how this claim is made.

The first Wolfenstein game was designed and distributed on the Commodore 64 ...

Not according to , which in turn could be wrong, but I am pretty sure it was not made on the 64:

Castle Wolfenstein is a stealth-based, action-adventure game developed by Muse Software for the Apple II and published in 1981. It was initially ported to the Atari 8-bit family, Commodore 64, and MS-DOS.

Add in sort of what you said (companies exist that have hardware to read even legacy tapes) and we have: stupid article is stupid.

Exactly right.

The idea that he got away with it because of commodore 64 is pretty telling that the cops are retarded.

It may be that it isn't easy to figure out what he was doing after he is dead because he had his life on the old system, but if it was bootable (could be he destroyed a lot of shit) then they should have been able to find somebody to work with it.

I guess if someone has an encrypted hard drive the cops are still stuck because they can't get any data off of it.... sensationalism in everything.

... sensationalism in everything.

I think you might be right. Cops don't care about motive because perp suicided. Journalist asks about details. Cops say, "Yeah, some old Commodore we don't give a shit about because we can't get anything off of it anyway."

BOOM! Shitty journalist story.
