I'd completely overlooked the benefits of autonomous driving with substance addicted drivers. You've got a new tool to help an addict to ensure they can get home safely at reduced risk to other drivers. Granted this guy might not have been drunk, simply sleeping, but the implications of this tech as its perfected are awesome.

Plausible deniability political executions, travel bans, easy curfew enforcement, protest eliminations. But it's good goy, because you can get home drunk without paying for a cab or getting arrested for public drunkenness before you enter your cab.
Yea, that would be a downer, but I suspect politicians and the rich will avoid this tech for those very reasons. More likely than not, as the tech is perfected states will pass laws requiring cars be equipped with it.
One would think that getting home autonomously should be encouraged after a night out.
