I had to do it with my previous job, except I was taking calls for industrial customers that were breaking stuff that I had to ask "How did you break that? And no, you can't take the probe assembly apart and replace that component, it doesn't work like that."

I don't know what to say, maybe try to get into the management level of tech support, that way you can take the difficult calls and tell them "No, we can't do that."

I did management actually. Systems Admin/Engineer to I.T. director. Could not play the politics; have a penchant for telling people to fuck themselves (when they deserve it).

Well, that can get in the way. There seems to be a decent amount of electrical tech jobs around if you don't mind contracts and can get a security clearance. You just had to deal with indians all the time.
