I don't care how much you can store, the seek time must be absolutely horrendous.

You don't use magnetic tape media as a primary means of storage. Tape is for backups and archive. You keep using spinning disks and SSDs for your main storage and backup and archive your data to tape where it can easily be stored off-site and cheaply enough to use for disaster recovery. It may not be your thing, but the industry still relies on it.

I was going to joke how this new shit is expected to reach blazing speeds close to usb 2.

Large companies still use it when shit gets real bad. It's just a guarantee for IT to fall back on.
