Now, newer operating systems and websites such as iOS and YouTube commonly offer “dark modes”, because it became trendy now.

Why does it need a trend before they introduce actually practical features?

Using white backgrounds, the power efficiency advantage of AMOLED displays gets defeated, and even worse than that.

AMOLED displays showing white backgrounds consume more power than LCD displays, and much more than an AMOLED display showing a dark background.

Side note: On the screenshot comparison, the white-background one uses all-uppercase text on the 4 tabs at the top.

Crappy design trend.

Microsoft also did that with Office 2013 (LibreOffice/OpenOffice thankfully didn't).

Also, BitChute.com's video titles are ALL-UPPERCASE.

IT LOOKS AS IF THE TEXT WERE SCREAMING AT YOU.

STOP THE UPPERCASE DESIGN TREND!

DON'T YOU THINK IT IS A BIT EASIER TO READ TEXT WHICH IS ALL-CAPITAL? IT'S AS IF YOU DON'T HAVE TO THINK.

To me, it does not make a noticeable difference in terms of readability.

But, in that screenshot, if their intention actually was making it readable more easily, they would not have diminished the contrast between the text and the background.

They went for consistency over readability because people are nitpicky cunts that think they're experts on everything because they have an opinion.

You're absolutely right Handroid, it's worse.
