Like, totally gag me with a spoon, comrade!
gag me with a spoon
That took me back. In my sordid youth, at my favorite watering hole, we played this pinball machine. Its name was "Time Machine" IIRC and it was one of the sound bites it spit out. The phrase would've been gibberish to me, despite my knowledge of British English that was taught to us kids in school, were it not for my then American friend Mike, who told me all about Valley Girls and such.
That was one great machine, right up there with Bally's "Eight Ball". (Disclaimer: Your mileage may vary)
I vaguely remember Time Machine. Eight Ball is a classic, tho. That used to be everywhere.
I always thought that sound was purely mechanical. Now I read that there was an electronic sound generator inside. I find that hard to believe. Imagined some kind of electromechanical xylophone. Also could have sworn that the counters were mechanical and had less digits. The art looks familiar though.
