The seven-year-old girl who became trapped in a sand hole with her brother while they were digging at a Florida beach Her brother, 9-year-old Maddox, was pulled out by his father and survived.
My first thought: Things can happen fast when sand is involved. Glad the father reacted fast enough to save one of them.
But then I read further....
Sloan’s stricken father, Jason Mattingly, posted a brief note on his home improvement business’ Facebook referencing the tragedy.
My thought: Hmm. Why not post it on your personal social media pages? Why bring your small business into this for no reason? Seems like he is capitalizing on the tragedy to get his business's name out.
The children and their mother and father were visiting Lauderdale-by-the-Sea on vacation Sloan became trapped underneath her brother in the roughly 5 foot deep hole Responding emergency crew found Maddox buried in sand up to his chest, while Sloan was entrapped underneath him. Sloan died after being submerged in sand for roughly 20 minutes.
My thought: What? The family was vacationing in an unfamiliar locale and the parents left the two young kids out on a beach (a Florida beach no less) alone for long enough that the two small kids could dig a fucking 5 foot deep hole in the sand, get buried by the same, and then still not be found for another 20 minutes?
The tragedy is the failure of the parents to be parents and keep an eye on their children, particularly when visiting an unfamiliar location with inherent environmental dangers, without even considering the artificial dangers that could be present.
Sloan died after being submerged in sand for roughly 20 minutes.
Horrible writing. She didn't die after being submerged for 20 minutes in sand, she died within the first minute, or more likely within the first 20-30 seconds.
