Make a cast that will do expensive parts...
But, the right milling machine can do a million dollars of work in a year if you do the right plane parts under the same principle. Casting simply can't compete, especially given the ability to automate weeks into the future, where the machine works 24/7.
What's the most basic and repairable milling machine one can own? Thinking "no" on anything high-tech for shtf
It doesnt connect to the Internet, if you don't want. I don't consider it that high tech.
I guarantee whatever you cast will still need to be machine milled, anyways, at finish. In that sense, you're going to spend anywhere from 20k to 50k for a used machine, anyways.
That's why I'd recommend a dmg mori for 100k used.
Casting just seems like extra steps, to me, personally, and very labor intensive.
How long will that DMG Mori last in SHTF scenario though? Where do you get parts for it?
What's the really low-tech way to machine items? Suppose you had to bootstrap a machine shop from one machine, building or repairing each machine from scratch.
