Beans and rice are 60 cents a pound right now and a pound of rice or beans is good for 10-11 servings. Ammo maybe a little more expensive. If kept dry they should last 30 years. Protect yourself and your family.

I am the youngest of 10. My dad was a truck driver, and during harvest season (in CA) he would stock pile 100lbs bags of rice and beans on our enclosed back porch/laundry. We ate a lot of beans and rice with corn bread in the 50s-60s.

That actually sounds good right now, and not that sweet nasty cornbread either. I'm talking gritty corn bread that's just sweet enough from the corn meal, slathered in real butter.

Jalapeno cheese cornbread with the little corn kernels intact are my thing

i know what i will be doing today.

Living in southeast TX now days. Red beans and rice with cornbread is one of our favorite winter meals. Add some chopped onions and cajun spice to the beans.

I usually do brown beans and ham over toasted homemade bread, been a while since I've done red beans and rice. I guess the brown beans are more of a WV thing, and that's where gramma was from.

Make sure to stock a bunch of bullion and seasonings too, otherwise eating white rice and beans by itself will get old quick.

bay leaves in a cooking pot o' beans are good.

Am from Louisiana, so make it kidney beans and stock up on seasonings of your choice. Tabasco is essential in my family. Never goes bad, never tire of it.

i'm into Trappey's Peppers if i can't have fresh. you can use the juice or do like i do and cut the little peppers up fine and sprinkle them on everything. love them on homemade pizza.

Salt is another very important thing to have as well.

Refined granulated white sugar is important for serious or open wound healing when antibiotics or antibiotic ointments are scarce or unavailable.

Put up one Hog and you can go thru 20 Lbs. of salt easily.

I carry rice and beans with me when I go backpacking. The secret to eating good while backpacking is condements.

Save up whatever condements you get for a few months from restaurants. Ketchup packets, soy sauce packets from Chineese joints, KFC has butter / honey packets. Order some McNuggets from McDonald's and get a few of each dipping sauce they have. Hot sauce from taco bell.

With a selection of condiment packets, and just rice and beans, you will eat like a king on the trail. Tortillas are good to bring along as well.

Rice is a food extender. You don't eat it on it's own, but it goes well with just about anything. Fill a bowl half with any stew and half with rice and you have a great meal. I don't bother with beans because they are a pain to cook.

Dried split green peas and dried lentils are solid deals too. Brown rice is healthier than white rice but brown rice includes the part of the grain that has fats in it. Those fats go rancid and that’swhy white rice has a longer shelf life.

i'll up-vote all that if tp and garbage bags are included in the list. sounds funny but when the situation goes sideways, common hygiene things rise to a premium really fasting like tp and a way to take care of trash.

Feminine pads are equally important, for women obviously but also for trauma wound dressing and for the financially minded - for barter

Stock what you eat and eat what you stock.

People will declare their beans and rice inedible and risk their lives for fast food.

Stock what you eat and eat what you stock.

my problem is when i switch to beans and rice, my guts get ornery. I like beans and rice.

Red beans and rice is my favorite thing in the world. but If I eat it everyday, my asshole will EXPLODE.

Polenta, Oatmeal, Vegetables and Fruit have been most helpful. I can keep the veg long enough and eat it in time now, mostly cucumbers pickles onions and tomatoes. I had 2 cartons of eggs go bad in the fridge before I touched em, but I got some powered eggs in a #10 can and I'm eating breakfast now just like petty officer used to make. I wish I could find those giant tubecans of diced ham for my omelettes.

How do eggs go bad? I've kept eggs un-refrigerated for years and they were fine.

Were they store bought eggs? They say they don't last as long once they are washed. Eggs fresh from the coop last a lot longer, and even longer if you rub then with a light coat of cooking oil.

Alright I upvoted you for good advice, but what does this have to do with politics?

@AOU you may want to move this, may I suggest /s/preppers or /s/Prepping.

I dig rice BTW but never been much into beans. Have a bunch of dehydrated food though.

/s/prepping or /s/peppers for sure.

Biden's politics will lead to crisis, crisis will lead to unrest, unrest leads to supply chain interuptions / shortages... downward goes the country

@AOU must be slipping... Either that or he's playing a 'favorites game'...

I own ammo that is 92 years old and is just fine. There’s no limit if it is kept well.

I'll just leave this here for you gentlemen: https://www.mounthopewholesale.com/

They are good people and this company damn near saved my life during the early days of the scamdemic before I was brave enough to shop maskless.

While everyone else was making excuses about 'these hard times', they shipped my bulk food and I ate it.

I got wheat flour and yeast from em, learned how to bake bread, I'm not great at it, but I know how and I ate it and lived.

I bought 10lb bags of polenta from em, oh I'm a happy euro-peasant now, and I ate it and am alive today.

My average Order-to-doorstep with them is 3-4 days, nice and fast and every bit of food I have gotten from them was wholesome, delicious and I think they actually grow most of it themselves. It comes in giant bags, with printed label. They have a decent selection too.

I emailed them a thank you when I got the food at a critical time and one of the owners emailed me back to tell me how glad they were to have helped.

Good folks. Good product. They deserve to be well known, but you guys better not but out all the stock or I'll starve.

Man, what the fck are you niggas talking about beans and rice for? Y'all act like we're in Mexico, or making minimum wage or some shit.

A bit after the toilet paper panic ended, my grocery store had a whole cart filled of beans at clearence, $0.25 / bag. I guess they bought a bunch expecting a run on beans and they didn't sell all of them... until I bought them... for $0.25 / bag.

I'm swimming in beans.
