I adopted my dog from a no-kill shelter even though the staff tried to talk me out of it "are you sure? don't you want to see another dog?" No. I adopted her (juvenile Pitbull) and she was a lot of work at first (and she's still a little terrorist 10 years later), but she's the purest good I've ever seen in this world.
I heard a quote somewhere I'm about to butcher... "The reason people live longer is that it takes them much longer to figure out how to be good."

I like adopting older or neglected dogs. If this makes sense - if you get a puppy, you can raise it to your human standards, but if you get a dog, you get a real dog.
