Yes you do. You can buy used working ones online for under a $100 for a decent one and under$50 for a normal one. I saw the model that was the year after improved one the family uses and it was $50 and likely faster even used than the one we use now.
Heck I imagine some store chains take trade ins if you pick up something for over $200 or even $300 and give you so much off then sell it for twice as much after hitting it with compressed air to blow the dust off the inside components then wipe out the inside of the case with alcohol and outside then just attach it to a test bench system and see if it connects and downloads at a decent speed so 10 minutes work for $25 profit on a used system.
