This is incredible for being a mechanical creation, but it can't be said that a modern electronic device that makes music like this (and much more) is a lesser accomplishment. A modern synthesizer can do even more than these machines, but it is human nature to discount the use of electronics as an endeavor as good as a mechanical version. That of course ignores the incredible amount of skill, knowledge, mechanical prowess and technical wizardry needed to produce that which goes into an electronic sound machine. There are a few orders of magnitude more thought and labor that goes into making a synth because the chip making process alone is staggeringly complex and labor intensive. A synth isn't a cheap-fake replacement here. It is an incredible evolution that improves the achievement in every way. I have several synths that can fit in my pocket that can do, at the very least, what these machines do. They're just not built with the same aesthetic because that would make them impractical for their intended purpose. Revere the old world but not at the cost of our (White) progress. I'm sure someone was critical of these machines back when they came about because they were not real musicians. Remember the past but keep moving into the future. It's the White way.
