The article is kind of misleading, the die cost 50 cents. Packaging and testing and all that other crap with actually selling a product added a lot more cost.

They still pay this to the x86 mafia group. Forgot what it’s called. It’s why Apple rolled their own. PowerPC got crushed by this (among other ballooning costs). I don’t think arm has to pay that shit.

I remember my first 386/dx40 I built….ordered one for myself the next day. Thing was smoking compared to the 33 intel. Fucking smoking!!!
