For those who are versed in Anime, this title should be familiar. But for those who aren't, Fruits Basket is a classic manga that has now been adapted into not one but two anime offerings. Suffice to say: it's a beloved story, and for good reason.

On paper, the story seems sketchy. It follows the tale of Tohru Honda, a teenage girl whos been left an orphan after the death of her mother. After a quirky set of circumstances, she winds up becoming the live in maid for the Sohma family. However, the Sohma family holds a secret: whenever hugged by a member of the opposite sex, they turn into an animal from the Chinese zodiac.

This is a long manga (100+ chapters), but the story is well paced and the ending leaves you with a strong feeling of closure. If I did have a complaint, it would be with the translations available. Most of the English offerings are good, but some (especially the later issues) suffer from extreme Engrish problems.

Overall, this is a fantastic manga, and as long as you realize it's length, you won't regret a read thru.
