Someone in the comments asked this:

How come this has never been an issue before and all of a sudden it happens all the time now ?🤔

I think there are two reasons.

  1. These large battery packs for charging smaller batteries (phones) are relatively new.
  2. Our magnetic field is becoming weaker, so the disturbances up at cruising altitudes after solar storms are becoming stronger.

Despite clear warnings during flights, and videos like this, idiots will continue to plug their phones into these chargers. We will see more of these videos.

There are also a lot more of these things out there now, and they are being made cheaper and cheaper. As more show up, and they get cheaper - it's always a race to the bottom - you're going to have more failures.

People are literally trying to store barely contained fire in a cheap plastic case made by a how-cheap-can-we-make-it manufacturer.
