I think it's probably more about a movement designed to draw attention to the fact that equal protection under the law is not the reality for about half the population. Yes, the majority of their gripes are induced by their own behavior, but if society is based upon justice, this is one area where society is weak and this weakness is further breaking the fabric which is already fraying regardless of where the problem starts.
