The Champs-Élysées and surrounding area is one of those things (like the Grand Canyon) that every human being needs to see with his own eyes at least once in his lifetime. It is IMO a heritage site and a birthright given from our ancestors. I can't believe what they allowed to happen to it. Not even the Wehrmacht desecrated the site like this during a war. Literally worse than Nazis (and it pains me to make that comparison).
