Yesterday my dad told me he'd used a spent casing to practice dry firing in the basement, and the primer went off again...
Good thing those basement walls hardly reflect sound at all.

I was told dry firing is no bueno for the firing pin.
Centerfire is fine to dry fire, aside from some antiques that dont secure the firing pins.
Rimfire like .22 LR should never be dry fired because it can damage the firing pins.
How much does a firing pin cost?
Depends on the gun. A Glock is like $70
Yes, best to limit it as much as possible. A little isn't terrible though.
Heck, we used to set up a bullet trap by the fireplace like 12 feet away from the couch and shoot .22s in the living room.
Flobert rounds are great for that!
Best to use practice bullets.
Yeeeaah. No.
When I was a young Marine, we spent much more time dry firing than we ever did any live firing in training.
