That's what it is in California. The older homes have larger lots and the new homes have walkways around them with windows facing windows of neighbors.
Older homes can have their own problems but I far prefer them. More interesting designs, often far better built, larger lots, already "settled", if not updated they can be cheaper if you are willing to do the work yourself....
Our first home was from the early 1900's. That thing was cool in the summer, warm in the winter. Newer homes were always running heat/ac and the walls were paper thin so you could hear everything in the house. The old house was very quiet.
I am currently looking for a new place since we want land and to be further away from other people and we are looking at older construction intentionally.
It sounds like people just want an air gapped apartment. The rest of the property isn’t important. They don’t do anything outside, so they don’t care about yard space or privacy.
That's a good way to put it. I see new construction around where I am and it looks horrid. At that point it may as well just be a row house or something. You are probably less than 4 ft away from the next structure, no yard, the house is almost exactly the footprint of the lot itself... etc...
Worse yet. Imagine a fire in the area? One house goes up, if the firefighters are not fast enough or the winds are too high the entire neighborhood is gone.
It sounds like everyone is building town houses; even outside of town. They probably make more money by splitting the land up into twice as many lots that barely fit one house each.
THIS IS RACIST!!!! White men built the 'existing homes' and strong powerful economic migrants built the new homes!!! THOSE ARE HIGH QUALITY NEW HOMES MADE OF SUPER DURABLE PLASTIC AND LAMINATE!!!
