What were you and/or wife raised in? Obviously I'd recommend finding a Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod congregation... conservative mainline American Lutherans because that's what I was raised in
My wife was raised Lutheran and I was raised well many different denominations. I found reading the book was the best way to do things I’d rather know what it says than let someone try to tell me. The Bible says that church should be a congestion, as in people congregating and getting to know each other and it just in general isn’t.
That is one of the primary reasons Martin Luther wrote the Small Catechism and translated the Bible into German. Average folks didn't have any idea what it really meant to be Christian and what the Bible actually said about salvation, etc.
Reading the Bible and connecting with fellow believers is solid base
