They say that Hitler was evil and insane and had no rational reason to want jews out of Germany. Then he was such a convincing orator that the whole country just went along with his suggestion. Then the English got really angry because he wanted the German part of Poland back in Germany. Then the US and Russia decided that if England was angry at Germany, they would be too.

Exactly. Ever since as a kid I always kept asking "well, if he was this super duper evil worse-than-satan guy, then why the hell did the German people be on board with him?", and every time I'd get this drooly, beady-eyed non-response that basically amounted to either "they were duped/stupid/desperate!" or "he pretended to be good and then showed his true colors!", etc.
