That conference was for Arkime (arkime.com), an open source network analysis tool that used to be called “Moloch”. There are still many uses of the name “Moloch” in the code base. It was originally built and used internally at AOL to replace similar commercial tools.
There must have been some creepy people working at AOL. Verizon didn’t demand they update the conference name even after the software was renamed. That’s odd. Someone at Verizon must have asked where the name “Moloch” came from.
