And with the lack of turnover in Congress, they don't have to primary every enemy of theirs all at once. They can focus on the loudest ones. They can use the party infrastructure against newcomers who are challenging everything, by donating to power brokers' reelection campaigns.

I don't consider myself religious either, but there's plenty of lessons to learn from the Bible.

Absolutely. I see it as universal truth. What that means is I consider it's lessons and good nature foundational to western civ. That alone makes me a proud Christian even as I struggle with faith.
