Came here to point out that this meme is going around and unfairly smearing Pinochet. Allende conspired with the USSR to ship in guns and APCs for a Soviet backed Communist coup and explicitly told them that a million dead Chileans were an acceptable price to bring about Communism in Chile. Chile was being overthrown no matter what. Pinochet acted after the government repeatedly begged him to save them from Allende and the USSR. That was still 5-6k dead Communists, but compared to Allende's million dead and becoming a puppet state of the USSR...what is anyone complaining about? You choose from the options you have, not between reality and Thomas Jefferson riding a unicorn farting freedom.
