The way these headlines are written, you'd believe that she's been sentenced to a year in prison. Rather, the maximum penalty for the charge is $1000 fine and a one year jail sentence...it doesn't mean that's what she'll receive.
Let's see what the judge does before getting too upset... the judge may just fine her $100 and ask if she learned her lesson.
To be clear, I feel for the woman. I babysat my younger siblings at that age and had I fucked up, my parents would have been held responsible. This could happen to literally anyone.
Perhaps the law needs to be changed, I don't know.
But nothing to get too alarmed about here.. at least not yet.
